Coseismic Slip Model of the 2022 Mw 6.7 Luding (Tibet) Earthquake: Pre‐ and Post‐Earthquake Interactions With Surrounding Major Faults

چکیده

Abstract The 5 September 2022 Mw 6.7 Luding earthquake occurred on the Moxi segment of highly active Xianshuihe fault in eastern Tibet. Here, we constrain coseismic slip by jointly inverting displacements measured Global Positioning System, seismometer and Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar. Along fault, concentrated left‐lateral strike extends ∼30 km along above 10 depth, producing 0.7–1.0 m shallow slip. Clustered aftershocks inversions suggest that secondary conjugate Mozigou may also involve rupture. Southward rupture propagation is likely arrested barrier‐like segments characterized high interseismic coupling (>0.6) reduced shear stress rate (<1 kPa/yr) due to interactions with surrounding large locked asperities. distribution correlated positive Coulomb failure changes , which bring adjacent asperities Anninghe Daliangshan faults ∼0.2 MPa closer failure.

Coseismic Slip and Afterslip of the Great Mw 9.15 Sumatra–Andaman Earthquake of 2004

We determine coseismic and the first-month postseismic deformation associated with the Sumatra–Andaman earthquake of 26 December 2004 from nearfield Global Positioning System (GPS) surveys in northwestern Sumatra and along the Nicobar-Andaman islands, continuous and campaign GPS measurements from Thailand and Malaysia, and in situ and remotely sensed observations of the vertical motion of coral...

Coseismic Deformation and Slip Distribution of the 1997 Mw7.5 Manyi, Tibet, Earthquake from InSAR Measurements

We use interferometric synthetic aperture radar (InSAR) observations to investigate the coseismic deformation and slip distribution of the 1997 Mw7.5 Manyi earthquake, a left-lateral strike-slip earthquake occurred on the west portion of the Kunlun fault in the northern Tibet, China. The fault trace is constrained by the combination of interferometric coherence image and azimuth offset image. T...

Coseismic Slip Distribution of the 2001 Kokoxili, Northern Tibet, Earthquake, Constrained by GPS and Geological Field Survey Data

We analyze GPS data observed before and after the 2001 Mw 7.8 Kokoxili earthquake in northern Tibet to derive the coseismic deformation field of that earthquake. Using this coseismic displacement data set and geologically mapped surface break measurements, we invert for the coseismic slip distribution along the seismogenic East Kunlun fault. Our result shows that the earthquake on average ruptu...

Coseismic slip of the 2010 Mw 8.8 Great Maule, Chile, earthquake quantified by the inversion of GRACE observations

The 27 February 2010 Mw 8.8 Maule, Chile, earthquake ruptured over 500 km along a mature seismic gap between 341 S and 381 S—the Concepción–Constitución gap, where no large megathrust earthquakes had occurred since the 1835Mw 8.5 event. Notable discrepancies exist in slip distribution and moment magnitude estimated by various models inverted using traditional observations such as teleseismic ne...

Slip Distribution of the 2014 Mw=8.1 Pisagua, Northern Chile, Earthquake Sequence Estimated From Coseismic Fore-Arc Surface Cracks

The 2014 Mw= 8.1 Iquique (Pisagua), Chile, earthquake sequence ruptured a segment of the Nazca-South America subduction zone that last hosted a great earthquake in 1877. The sequence opened >3700 surface cracks in the fore arc of decameter-scale length and millimeter-to centimeter-scale aperture. We use the strikes of measured cracks, inferred to be perpendicular to coseismically applied tensio...
